Brief Biographical: Susan Ellis, author of aliens among us, is a life-long nature lover, animal lover and a self-proclaimed bug-hugger. Susan's academic background in English literature and behavioral ecology provides a unique context for her observations of living things. Her childhood fascination with insects was rekindled while studying the prey of insect-eating bats! The field research for her masters' work led her to the South African bush veldt where she developed a strong sense of being the newly arrived guest in the home of other animals. There, she began to truly appreciate insects as neighbors, each with a unique history, preciousness, individuality, and story to tell.

Susan is captivated by the beauty and wonderfulness of living things and feels there is a beauty and point of common reference in every living thing. "Photography is a way for me to make surprising discoveries and unexpected connections with many different creatures. The emphasis in my photographic work is on beautiful form, compelling emotional content and capturing the essence of the subject."
