On tax day, 2008, I
realized a lifelong ambition when I became a beekeeper.
This has given me the excuse to spend even more time
sitting around watching insects! Honeybees are fascinating
little animals. Their busy little golden bodies and the
smell of their hives are Summer, distilled.

Here's a link to my honeybee galleries
with lots of pictures of
honeybees doing various honeybee activities, of other
insects sometimes confused with honeybees, and
microscope images of honeybees up close and personal.
Here's a group photo of a few of my girls . . .
and one of my boys.

Honeybees are finally
getting the general recognition they deserve, although it's
taken the threat of losing them to make us more aware of
the important role they play in our agricultural systems.
